How to Introduce People

It's all in the details.

Note from the Editor: I've been obsessed with Emily Post since I learned how to set a table properly, and I'm excited to announce a new series called Weekly Niceties. It's bits of etiquette, finer details, and an emphasis on infusing class into the 21st century in a non-stodgy way. Up first? How to introduce people. Cheers! Xx.

Want to know how to phrase the most respectful introduction? When you are introducing someone, always begin with their name and then follow with their relation to you. Here is an example:

Wrong: This is my business partner and friend, Kelci.
Right: This is Kelci, my business partner and friend.

By phrasing it this way, you place the emphasis on the person rather than their connection to you. I've been doing this for about five years, and while it isn't a huge deal, it makes such a lovely difference.
