The Berry G&K (a twist on the gin and tonic)

I really love the tradition of a cocktail at the end of the day to transition from the go go go work mentality to a more relaxed vibe. My goal was to find a delicious cocktail I could pull together just as easily as grabbing a glass of wine, and The Berry Gin and Kombucha certainly fits the bill. While it might take one more minute than opening a bottle and pouring a glass, it's worth every second.

Let's break down a traditional Gin & Tonic, which is made of, well, gin and tonic, as well as a slice of lime. I wanted to add a summer twist by tossing in some frozen mixed berries (blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries) as a way of both flavoring and cooling the drink. In a nod to the original, we're still including some lemon and lime here but replacing the tonic with plain kombucha from UpDog Kombucha. This plain kombucha adds just the right sweetness to keep you coming back for more while also providing yummy health benefits like supported digestion and anxiety relief. Talk about a cocktail you'll feel good drinking.

What I love so much about this cocktail is its versatility. I've made it with gin (of course), tequila, and vodka, and all of them taste incredible. If you don't have gin on hand, no worries, every light liquor works flawlessly.

Please note that everyone's preferences are different when it comes to alcohol. If you find this is too weak or strong, adjust accordingly. I always make a recipe first the way it's listed, second with a little twist, and finally a third time to make sure I've got it just how I like it. I hope you share your versions in the comments or via social media so we can all enjoy! This cocktail can also be made without the alcohol if you are expecting, have little ones who want to get in on the Great Vibes, or just want to sit back for an alcohol-free evening.

The Berry G&K

Ingredients ::

+ 7 Parts Plain Kombucha*
+ 2 Parts Gin
+ 1/2 cup Mixed Frozen Berries
+ 1/2 Lemon or Lime
+ Sugar (optional)**

Recipe ::

1. Add all of the ingredients to a shaker (optional addition of sugar here) and shake well. ***
2. Strain shaker contents into your glass and add ice if desired.
3. Sip & enjoy!

Notes ::

* I typically make 1 part = 1 ounce, however if you are making for more than one, keep the ratios the same, and all is good!

** This cocktail gets its sweetness from the plain kombucha and the berries (i.e. it's not super sweet). If you are not used to that or want it to be a tad less tart, add whatever kind of sweetener or sugar you prefer, to taste.

*** Kombucha naturally carbonates, so when you go to combine the ingredients, it might pop the top of your shaker slightly. This is normal, but be sure to hold the top and bottom carefully to form a tight seal. Don't cry over spilled cocktail if a little escapes -- it's all part of the Great Vibes.
